His designs go beyond just being beautiful; They invite conversation and stimulate change. Thanks to his constant search for new ideas and his determination to harness design for social betterment, Pesce has had a lasting impact on the world of design and beyond.

Who is Gaetano Pesce?

During his career, architect and designer Gaetano Pesce has designed public and private projects in the United States, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. It spans four decades with commissions in the fields of architecture, urban planning, interior design, exhibitions and industrial design.

In all his work, he expresses his guiding principle: that modernism is less a style than a method of interpreting the present and alluding to the future, in which individuality is preserved and celebrated.

Pesce was born in 1939 in La Spezia, Italy, and studied architecture at the University of Venice between 1958 and 1963. He was a member of Gruppo N, an early collective that dealt with programmed art modeled after the Bauhaus.

He taught architecture internationally for 28 years, from Milan to Hong Kong. In addition, you can find his art in galleries all over the world. His work is included in more than 30 permanent collections of the most important museums in the world, such as:

  • the MoMa of New York and San Francisco,
  • the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Vitra Museum in Germany,
  • the Victoria and Albert Museum in London,
  • the Pompidou Centre and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs of the Louvre in Paris

His award-winning designs include the prestigious Chrysler Award for Innovation and Design in 1993, the Architektur and Wohnen Designer of the Year in 2006, and the Lawrence J. Israel Prize from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York in 2009. Pesce's experience has been global, and his innovations have always been groundbreaking.

Boundaries between art, design and industry are irrelevant to him. Art is certainly not something that is created and put on a pedestal: art is a product, it is our creative response to the needs of the times in which we live.
